Something New

Dialogue

What can I say? Probably the hardest assignement that we had, at least in my opinion. Synchronizing sound and animation was A LOT harder than what I expected, specially since the style I decided to use wasn't specially the "story time" lip-sync animation style. However, I had so much fun drawing the faces for Mokey the mouse but I think I got half deaf after hearing the same audio at least 70 times. He's a character from Sr. Pelo and I really love that guy and his work, but I would say that his type of humor isn't for everybody; and precisely what makes his animations so funny are the crazy faces that he draws for all his characters and even when his work are very simple flash (sometimes not actually animated) animations, I think his work is just amazing and even more important, it makes me laugh.  PD: Lower your volume, this is LOUD.

Walk Cycle

In terms of THE ANIMATION itself, I think this was probably my most complete work. It has a good amount of in-betweens, it has color which is a surprise because if you saw my previous works I like to keep things black & white and well I ended up being very happy with the result and I like the character that I made for this animation, its name is Vulcan (I think it is better than just call him Bull). Some comments about the process, OH LORD, since when walking is so hard? Like it took me so much to get my key frames right because I legitimately forgot how walking looked like and even when there's a lot of references of walking cycle, it stills being something hard if you are new in the animation world.

Weight

Well, here I worked on my first attempt to make someone walk and OH BOI it was hard. Even when walking is something so natural getting the right frames is incredibly hard but I also liked this one, the ending this time is inspired in a very old indie game creater GROW, he makes very "relaxing to play" games and one of the thing I really enjoy about his games is that they usually include this weird ending where the main character transform into a some kind of mini goblin with 1 eye, so it's a tribute to him.

Flour Sack Action

I really enjoyed working on this one, how the idea of the animation changed over the time, trying to incorporate more movement to the flour sacks and of course my favorite part was the new ending. I can't believe Halloween was a month ago. Anyway, IT'S BEING A MONTH SINCE SPOOKY MONTH!

Flour Sack Gestures

Imagen
I had a lot of fun drawing flour sacks haha, even when I ended up not using ALL the gestures that I made I really enjoyed creating Oogo and I think its animation is one of my favorites.

Overlapping Action and Followthrough

I really liked the final result. I think it shows a little more of how my style is, simple but agressive, and of course it shows my love for speedlines. This was actually the first time that I felt that I did a good job expressing myself through something so simple as a Pendulum. There were some mistakes for sure, the not very consistent size of the ball, the end of the scene where the rope looks and the ball were not really in a very nice final position, but at the end as I said, I like it.

Bouncing Ball

Certainly animators make the well known "bouncing ball" to look pretty easy to make but it was harder than the expected. In my first attempt I forgot that the ball needed to flatten every time it hit the ground. Squash and stretch for me is one of the most important rules when we are animating, and I saw it in this excercise, without it everything looks just so bland and boring and that's not how an animation should look like, things must look bouncy and exaggerated, that's what makes animation fun to watch and create.
